The dry-use rule

SeaVac is a dry vacuum. Here is what that means aboard.

SeaVac is built for the dry dirt a cabin collects. It is not a wet/dry machine, and the power unit is not built to be wet. Follow these rules and it will do its job.

Read this before you buy

SeaVac is a dry vacuum.

It is built for the dry dirt a cabin collects — sand, crumbs, dust, hair, lint — and nothing wet.

  • Cabin use only. Use it inside the dry, enclosed part of the boat.
  • Mount the power unit in a dry compartment, away from spray, bilge water and any hatch or locker that takes water.
  • Never vacuum water — no bilge water, standing water, spills, wet sand, damp carpet or anything wet.
  • For wet pickup, use a machine built for wet pickup. A SeaVac is not one.

Questions

Dry use, answered

Can I vacuum a little water if I am careful?

No. A SeaVac is a dry vacuum. Any water — a spill, a wet footprint of sand, a damp cushion — can reach the bag and the motor. Dry it first or use a machine built for wet pickup.

Can I use it on deck or in the cockpit?

SeaVac is for cabin use. Decks and open cockpits get spray and rain, and the dirt there is often wet.

Where should the power unit go?

In a dry compartment inside the cabin: a cabinet, a locker or under a berth, away from the bilge, spray and any hatch or locker that takes water.

Is wet sand OK once it has dried?

Yes, once it is fully dry. Dry sand is exactly what SeaVac is built for — and a VacPort on the Mini Pro, Ultra or Ultra Max lets you sweep it straight in.
